College Baseball Sportsbooks

Baseball is an exciting game to wager on with a lot of variables. The rotational pitching staff plays heavily into baseball betting odds. Although MLB baseball is the most popular form of baseball betting, NCAA baseball betting is steadily growing. Bettors can find a variety of betting options for NCAA baseball within the many online sportsbooks out there. Scores are often close in baseball and there is not usually a large point difference like in other sports such as football and basketball. In NCAA baseball, a moneyline is used and a point spread is very rarely seen. The closeness of the games makes a point spread senseless. However, there are other proposition options in addition to straight up moneyline bets.

The Moneyline

The moneyline is used to determine how much a bettor has to wager to receive a certain amount and how much they will receive for a wager. The point spread is where teams are handicapped with points to create a margin that covers the gap. In other words, a team may be -5 and the other team +5. This means that one team is giving up 5 points and the other is receiving 5 points. The underdog is +5 and the favorite is -5. The underdog would need to tie, win or lose by less than 5 points to win.

The moneyline differs from the point spread in that the odds are based on the team winning straight up. However, the odds are altered to create the margin. In other words, the odds are not even money. A moneyline example would be Michigan State at -150 and Michigan at +140. These odds would payout $140 for a $100 wager on the underdog (Michigan). A wager on Michigan State would need to be $150 to win $100. These types of bets are indicating that the team you select will win by any margin. A tie results in a push.

Run Line

In other sports total bets are offered and are often referred to as the over/under. In baseball, this is similar to the run line. Some sportsbooks offer an over/under on runs and others offer an additional line known as the run line. The over/under on runs is a wager on the combined amount of runs being over or under a certain total. The run line is normally used in games where one team is heavily favored. The concept of the run line is similar to the point spread.

Runs are subtracted from the favored team to create an additional margin beyond the moneyline. The moneyline could be -150 for Michigan State but the run line is +120 for Michigan State with two runs being subtracted. The payout odds are better on the run line. However, the run line may have made the favorite team now the underdog in terms of the odds.

Pitching

In baseball the odds are centered around who is pitching that particular game. There are a few ways to bet on NCAA baseball involving the pitcher. Bettors have the option to bet on the pitchers that are announced as an action bet, which means that whether the pitchers change before the game or stay the same, the bet is live. The odds (moneyline) may change but the bet is still on. Bettors can also choose to have their bet withdrawn or voided out if the starting pitcher changes at the last minute.

The third option is to wager on the pitcher for one specific team with no care as to who pitches for the other side. In this instance, as long as your selected team’s pitcher remains the starter, your bet will remain live. However, the moneyline may still change depending on the pitching change for the other team.

Baseball Sportsbook Considerations

NCAA baseball is offered at a large selection of online sportsbooks and picking the right one can be difficult at times. Choosing the ideal online sportsbook depends on a few things. If you are looking to wager on more than just NCAA baseball, you should review the various sports that are offered by the sportsbook you’re interested in. The online sportsbook should also accept your country of residence, an important factor to be sure.

During or immediately before the NCAA baseball season, check out the games they are covering and the various betting options. Some sportsbooks may offer a significant amount of betting options compared to another. The banking options would be another thing to carefully consider when selecting an online sportsbook. Bettors need to be able to deposit and withdraw from their sportsbook accounts with ease using a method that suits their needs. Lastly, investigate the customer support features and what options are available for making wagers. Most sportsbooks accept wagers via the web as well as over the phone.
